Everything is set for the start of the Al Shira’aa CSIO of Lisbon

The Al Shira’aa CSIO of Lisbon kicks off tomorrow at the Sociedade Hípica Portuguesa, where preparations are proceeding as planned for the start of yet another edition of one of the most prestigious international equestrian competitions. 

Earlier today, the traditional veterinary inspection took place, during which all participating horses were successfully approved — a mandatory requirement that certifies their excellent physical condition to compete throughout the weekend, while ensuring animal health and welfare. 

Now in its 101st edition, the CSIO of Lisbon brings together around 70 riders, approximately 120 horses, andrepresentatives from 13 countries, reinforcing the event’s international character and historical significance in the global equestrian calendar. 

This afternoon also featured the traditional warm-up session, during which the combinations competing tomorrow in the Nations Cup completed a short adaptation course on the iconic grass arena of the Sociedade Hípica Portuguesa, internationally recognised for its technical quality and strong equestrian heritage. 

The competition officially begins tomorrow, Friday, at 09:00, with the Lisbon City Council Trophy, contested at 1.35m. This will be followed by the Grupo Eulen Trophy, with obstacles set at 1.40m. 

The highlight of the opening day will be the Al Shira’aa Nations Cup, scheduled for 15:00. The running order of the teams was defined this afternoon during the chefs d’équipe meeting, held after the riders’ warm-up session:

Beyond the sporting component, the Al Shira’aa CSIO of Lisbon once again focuses on providing an entertainment experience for all audiences. The Commercial Village will feature a food truck area, shops, and brands connected to the equestrian world, as well as a variety of leisure and family-friendly entertainment options. 

Younger visitors will also be able to enjoy the return of the Pony Park and the Kids Zone by El Corte Inglés, offering activities specially designed for children, alongside other attractions created to provide fun family moments. 

For those unable to attend in person, all competitions of the Al Shira’aa CSIO of Lisbon will be broadcast live and free of charge in over 200 countries via the equestrian streaming platform ClipMyHorse.TV
